Cartografías de lo Antihigiénico [Cartographies of the Unhygienic] is a project focused on the city of Granada, its events, and my lived experience during my 25 years of life in this city where I was born. The main piece consists of sixty homemade cement blocks, determined by segmenting the metropolitan map of Granada into a 6×10 grid. Viewed from above, each 10 cm² block corresponds approximately to 680 m² of actual territory. I wander through the city and record different events in each segment of Granada. Each portion of the territory (block) represents four phenomena considered representative of that area.

This project is framed within the Art of Memory, an ancient practice dating back to Ancient Greece and Rome, where techniques were used to create physical or mental representations to help evoke meaningful memories and experiences. In my work, the criterion for recording an image is that it belongs to a striking impression or event, either collectively or personally. Thus, each block functions not only as a physical representation of the territory but also as a repository of significant memories, evoking events and experiences that have left a mark on the community or my personal experience. This is deeply related to contemporary notions of memory and avatarity in the digital medium.

In addition to the main piece, the exhibition includes other works that are mostly process-based, products of the dérives described. These pieces complement and enrich the main installation, providing broader context and deeper understanding of the events and memories recorded in the cement blocks.

The main body of work, consisting of 60 cement sculptures and photographs, was exhibited on two occasions: in 2021 at Espacio Lavadero (Granada) under the title Cartografías de lo Antihigiénico [Cartographies of the Unhygienic] and in 2022 at the ETS of Architecture of Granada under the title Poesía de Rotonda. While the 2021 exhibition was accompanied by a large number of process-based pieces, in 2022 a small publication was produced including a theoretical framework and an extended explanation of the project.

La segunda exposición no se realizó sin una resignificación; con el tiempo y de forma sosegada, se comprendió que muchos de los hitos registrados eran consecuencia de la demanda moderna de velocidad y fluidez.
